Magic and Motherhood: A Muffin
A place of exploration through the senses, spirituality and stories through poetry, prose, short stories, a novel, reflections and more
I'm coming out of maternity leave and back to writing, among other things. This is my place of sharing my exploration of the senses, spirituality and stories through poetry, prose, short stories, a novel, reflections and more - now written with a baby on my lap. Writing keeps me sane and helps me feel more like me. Feeling like me feels good. Sharing with all of you makes it more fun and is part of my life’s work. I love moving through my day noticing little bits of magic, like I share below in the poem “Magic,” or capturing poems filtering through my dreams. I love turning seemingly unconnected memories, like cracking a hazelnut for the first time and taking warm muffins out of the oven, into poetry. The workings of creativity fascinate me and I feel lucky to get to explore them with you all here.
Magic
Early-morning mountain road glitters with frosty greetings, turning into
sun-heat ripples on my opened book until
stars glare through new moon darkness and
barely-backlit mountains emerge as
dawn approaches softly.
These rhythms, they beckon my heart open
a little more
each time
I let the magic of the world thrill me.

Motherhood, A Muffin
Motherhood is all the things:
hard as a hazelnut shell and
heart-squishy like the spreading moss on the forest floor.
Motherhood, a muffin
soft and warm right out of the oven and
also can get old on the 5th day, or the 100th.
Motherhood, a ticking clock
the minutes slowly speeding into change,
circling around Love.
