little moments
This week, I’m reminded that joy and delight often come in little moments that can fill me up for weeks to come. Here are a few examples:
My son, 18-months-old and not at all dressed in rain gear, discovers puddles and delightedly stands under the cold water pouring off the tin roof during an almost daily rainstorm. Pure joy!
The dandelions this year are plentiful and GIANT! Have you noticed? Walking through a field full of their abundance this morning reminded me: this is your state, too. Bright, colorful, joyful, abundant and full of life!
I had time to bake last week, a favorite hobby of mine, and have been enjoying and sharing molasses cookies and shortbread ever since.
This morning, I stopped and smelled the lilac flowers emerging at the farm. It’s one of my favorite sights and smells of spring!
I’ve been able to work every day on a writing project that is close to my heart. I received a Delaware County Arts Grant to write and share “Listening to Place,” a collection of stories told from the perspective of Places on Riverdale Farm, my family’s home and land that we steward. It feels so good to write! I’ll be hosting a reading at Bushel Collective in Delhi, NY in November 2025 and will have copies of the book to sell as well as a free audiobook. Stay tuned for more information!
May these words remind you and your heart that worry and stress don’t get to take up all the air in the room. We get to be joyful, vibrant, and alive, too!
Which reminds me of this song by Shirley Caesar that feels appropriate to remember and sing these days:
This joy I have, the world didn’t give it to me (x3)
The world didn’t give it, the world can’t take it away
What are your little moments these days? Let me know - I’d love to hear from you!
